France’s Aurelien Giraud won the 22nd Annual Tampa Am contest with an incredible run that earned him a 92.00 and took out Jagger Eaton, the leader at the time, in the process. Giraud, who is 17, was at the top of the leaderboard in the semis and ended up in 6th place once that round of action as over.
In the finals his first run was a 75 and after seeing Eaton drop a 91.2 in his first run, Giraud came out swinging. His second run was so good that it left the audience stunned and it sucked the air out of the building after landing a perfect overcrook nollie flip.
The next great moment of the finals came from Tanner VanVark, Sunday’s top qualifier from the semis. He took things up a notch on his last run to earn a 84 and lock third place up. Following him were the two Golden Ticket winners from this weekend Lehi Leite and Jeremy Knibbs, and they were the last two guys with a chance at beating Giraud, but they were unsuccessful.
Giraud has been skating since he was six years old and spent most of his time at the Gerland Skatepark in Lyon where he progressed under the tutelage of Greg “Marley” Laufersweiler, Mathieu Hilaire and JB Gillet. A year later he got his first contest win at the V7 Teenage Tour. This year he won the Vans Spring Classic, the Nike Berlin Open, the Munich Mash and the Arnette O’Marisquino. Now he can add Tampa Am to that list and with that win he earned a Monster Energy Golden Ticket to the 2016 SLS Pro Open. Congratulations Aurelien Giraud!
