Since the launch of Street League Skateboarding (SLS) in 2010, the SLS mission has been to foster the growth and popularity of street skateboarding worldwide. In support of SLS’ mission, Nike SB joined forces with SLS to create the 2013 SLS Nike SB World Tour. As the most elite competitive series in skateboarding, the SLS Nike SB World Tour elevates street skateboarding and showcases the sport’s biggest stars as they compete in an easy-to-follow, instant-scoring format that airs live on ESPN/ESPN2.
This year, Street League also undergoes its greatest phase of growth by establishing the first true street skateboarding world tour. Expanded from four U.S. events in 2012, the 2013 SLS Nike SB World Tour features seven events, including three international stops. SLS will again showcase the 20 top- ranked pros, battling it out for the largest prize purse in competitive skateboarding history—more than $2 million. The seven-event series culminates with the SLS Super Crown World Championship on August 25th. In total, the 2013 SLB Nike SB World Tour will include 11 live broadcasts in more than 198 countries with more than 40 hours of live content. The 2013 tour will also have the most expansive television coverage professional skateboarding has received to-date.
In addition to support from Nike SB, the global expansion of the tour was made possible by Street League becoming the official organizer of street skateboarding at all four Summer X Games stops. Branded as “Street League at X”, each event will include the 20 league pros and the winner of the local SLS Select Series. Street League at X events will feature the same quality course design, format, judging, instant ISX scoring, and prize money that are unique to SLS, while expanding the programming and media support behind the league.
The winner of each of the first six world tour events will receive a first place prize of $100,000 and a “Golden Ticket” guaranteeing them a spot in the SLS Nike SB World Tour Super Crown World Championship at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ. Only eight pros will qualify for the final event of the World Tour and get the opportunity to claim the title of Street League World Champion, including the biggest first place check in the history of the sport: $200,000.
