With Street League recapping some of the most special highlights of the past year, its important we take a look at the innovative $100,000 championship watch and ring manifested by Nixon and Rob Dyrdek.  Here is a look back at the sketches, photos, and moments to show how one of the highest value Nixon timepieces has evolved since its inception from the inaugural year of the series.

In 2010, Nyjah Huston was given the highly anticipated and first-ever, inaugural Street League Championship watch and ring combo at the 2011 springtime Street League Summit. With a custom time-piece crafted by Nixon, Nyjah’s icey watch and ring combo serves as a reminder of how hard the then 15 year-old dreaded pro put it down at each stop of the series. Both the custom watch and ring blends white gold, diamonds, ivory, and engraving naming Nyjah the 2010 Street League DC Pro Tour Fueled by Monster Energy Champion.

The Street League 2010 Championship Ring.  This ring evolved tremendously into 2011.

In 2011, Nixon and Street League worked together to take the Championship Nixon watch and ring to the next level.   Chad DiNenna, Nixon Co-founder and VP of Marketing, worked with his staff using a few inspiration images to hash out some initial ideas on design.  Beyond increasing the size of the face and bezel and popping the Street League Champion branding, Nixon also created an amazing case inspired by the type of skate spot design you would see on a Street League plaza course.  Here is a few images from that part of the process:

In 2011, the final result was a Nixon exclusive diamond-encrusted watch that completely raised the bar from any trophy or award seen in a professional skateboarding competition. Sean Malto took home the top spot in last year’s Street League, and with that honor came this one-of-a-kind timepiece as well as the matching Championship Ring. The watch is adorned with nearly 15carats of diamonds, bringing the overall value of the timepiece & ring nearly $100,000 USD.

The custom 51-30 features a Swiss made movement, stainless steel case and band, custom engraved case back and bezel complete with sapphire crystal. The 2011 Street League watch showcases 963 total diamonds on the case, band and dial, making it truly extravagant and unique.   Nixon’s design partnership with Street League has led to the some of the highest value watches Nixon has developed to date.  With the Nixon Championship Watch evolving year-after-year, we can’t wait to see what’s next (and who’s going to win it of course!).

Street League presents the 2011 Best Of Kansas City. For the second stop of the 2011 series Street League went to Sean Malto’s home town of Kansas City, MO where we had an amazing turn out heavy with Malto pride. This stop came down to the wire and ended with Nyjah Huston taking home his second consecutive Street League win on his last try with a huge Nollie Inward Heel Flip off the top of the Big Section. Last year, in the middle of Street League 2011 after solid skating at the Seattle and Kansas City stops,  a torn deltoid ligament left Torey unable to compete in the last two stops of the tour and in need of surgery. A few weeks later he went in to have the surgery he needed to repair the torn ligaments. Even though he was fresh off of surgery and still in a boot, Torey still came out to the Arizona stop and the Championship in New Jersey to host the Street League post contest press conferences as usual.

After a few months of no skating and some painful physical therapy, Torey is just now getting back on the board. We spoke with Torey briefly after he returned from a Plan B trip to Costa Rica and he said he is “Back skating 100% physically, still trying to get there mentally.” Look for Torey to be back skating in full force for the 2012 series of Street League Skateboarding and continuing to host the post contest press conference in classic Torey Pudwill style.
